Jesús | Spain

As a nurse, Jesus spent many years working in nursing homes, ambulances, and hospitals while conducting addiction research toward his PhD. During the pandemic, he even worked COVID ICU shifts on weekends while executing a major hepatitis C eradication program and completing his doctoral thesis.

His plan was to move into a more research-oriented field, and he found the perfect contract with a Spanish public health foundation. But after the contract ended, he became unemployed.

A Strategic Approach to Career Change

Jesus knew there was a gap in his profiles around digital skills. Instead of job hunting, Jesus saw his period of unemployment as an opportunity to upskill in the digital arena, knowing this would strongly increase his chances of finding his dream job in research. “I spent my mornings and afternoons in front of the computer training myself in things I had never done, studying management, digital transformation, marketing, automation, AI-related software programs,” he shares.

Generation Spain’s Robotic Process Automation program came at just the right time in his learning journey, helping bridge his healthcare expertise with emerging technology skills. What surprised him was how welcoming the program was to someone with his unconventional background. His instructor, Claudio, became a lasting connection, someone he still talks to regularly and considers a friend.

More Than Technical Skills

Along with a robust digital training, the program offered something Jesus hadn’t expected: help with workplace dynamics and soft skills, to level him up even further. “Generation is that help that I never thought I would have; it informed how I interact with my environment, with my people, with my colleagues.”

The personal transformation surprised him most. Rather than just learning technical skills, Generation fostered his natural collaborative instincts. “Generation went from being just a career transition tool to being ongoing support that helps me contribute both individually and as part of a team.”

Before he even finished the program, job offers started coming in. He landed a project manager role with an AI research group focused on healthcare, then moved to an even more senior position at a biomedical research foundation in Asturias. For Jesus, Generation wasn’t just technical training, it was “that support that allowed me to transfer all my real potential” into a new professional direction.
