Generation prepares Game Developers in LatAm for the world market through a partnership with Unity
Since 2023, 324 individuals from Colombia and Mexico have been trained as Game Developers through a partnership between Generation and Unity, the leading platform to create and grow games and interactive experiences.
The partnership provides a free, fully remote 14-week program designed to equip programmers with both hard and soft skills to become junior high-performance game developers using the Unity engine. This initiative addresses the talent gaps in the industry while also transforming lives by making a career in a growing sector reachable to individuals from underserved communities.
According to the latest Global Games Market Report by data company NewZoo, there are 372 million gamers in Latin America, which accounts for 11% of the world’s total. Furthermore, Latin America’s gaming industry is expected to generate $8.3 billion in 2025, representing a year-over-year growth of 6.4%. Around the world, the Game Market is estimated to generate US$188 billion this year.
These numbers illustrate the region’s potential as a market for gaming. A potential that translates to talent as well with large industry players setting up their bases in Colombia in the past few years.
Talent just a click away
Among the 324 graduates, 75% were between 18 and 29 years old. Prior to starting the program, 79% were unemployed. Three months after completing the program, 56% of them found employment, which increased to 79% six months after graduation.
In Colombia, where Generation operates under a fully remote delivery model, geographic barriers have been breaking down for both training and employment. From the Unity Game Developer program, 37% of our learners are from mid-sized and smaller towns in Colombia. Post-graduation, we have been enabling them to access remote, high-paying job opportunities both locally and globally. Colombia’s time zone alignment with the U.S. makes it an ideal base for international collaboration and to unlock global remote work opportunities for graduates.
One example is Dainer, 22 years old, who is from Villavicencio, in Colombia and graduated from the Unity Game Developer Program in 2024. Before joining Generation, he really struggled to find a job and now works remotely for Bacon Games, a leading game development company in Colombia that is developing FIFA Rivals, the first official game launched by FIFA after ending their partnership with Electronic Arts.
“I felt stuck until I entered the bootcamp. I did face many challenges during the three-month program, it was hard but I never gave up. I took this opportunity to learn as much as I could, and the mentorship I received during the program and afterwards was invaluable, including interview simulations and helpful tips. I couldn’t believe it when I was hired by Bacon Games and started working on a FIFA game. I transitioned from being a player to becoming a game developer, and I am very grateful to Generation for this opportunity.”

Ready, steady, play
Our program graduates are making an impact on the teams they join, from startups to consolidated international companies in the games industry. Our key employer partners such as Unity and Bacon Games have found our graduates bring both technical skills and adaptability that have allowed them to integrate well and add value to their teams
One of our employer partners,a global digital platform engineering and software development company, highlighted that “our interaction with Generation graduates has allowed us to identify talent with both the technical and soft skills aligned with what we seek in the market, strengthening our team in Colombia.”
That sentiment is echoed by Bacon Games, where several graduates are now contributing to live projects. They emphasized that “Generation’s graduates are quick learners who integrate smoothly into ongoing projects, improving and growing in the process.”
Unity has also felt the impact internally. Their Education team shared that “Generation Colombia provided us with two amazing candidates trained in the exact skills we needed. Their onboarding was seamless, and they quickly became tremendous assets to the team, both technically and culturally.”
These consistent experiences across employers reinforce the program’s impact for both graduates and employers. This is further supported by the fact that 56% of graduates who secured jobs were hired by companies that had previously recruited from the program, a clear signal of satisfaction and trust.
Press Go: From Latin America to the world
There is a growing interest in hiring Unity developers, and many talented individuals are eager to seize this opportunity. The demand for Unity developers extends beyond Colombia; our most recent cohort included learners across Colombia and Mexico. We received over 200 applications from Mexico for just 10 available spots within a span of 4 weeks. As Generation Colombia serves as the Regional Hub for Growth for new countries in Latin America, it is an ideal launching point to connect with learners throughout the region who are interested in this profession. We look forward to continuing our efforts to change lives and “press go” with our partners that make this possible.
