Felipe | Chile

From job uncertainty to a fresh new start in tech
Before discovering Generation, Felipe worked as a translator. However, the Chilean market was small, salaries were low, sustainable employment was hard to find and the work-life balance was not ideal to say the least. Even though he came from a family with four siblings, his basic needs were taken care of, yet he felt that his professional growth possibilities were limited.
During the COVID-19 pandemic he translated through the night to match an overseas employer’s schedule, all while wondering in which direction his career was heading. Translating AI‑ and tech‑related material soon sparked a new passion, which led to a fresh new start.
New beginnings with Generation Chile
Everything changed when Felipe encountered Generation Chile’s Junior Full‑Stack Java Developer program. He had zero coding experience but plenty of drive, and the technical training, expert guidance, and mentorship Generation’s program offered drew him in.
While enrolled, Felipe was unemployed and only thanks to Alejandra’s, his girlfriend’s support, he was able to focus completely on the program. In Generation’s structured environment he balanced the challenging coursework with personal growth. The journey was tough but transformative. After graduating, he was part of the Equifax Santiago PEC Talent Factory program, after which he ended up working as Entry Site Reliability Engineer. His hard work and dedication had finally paid off.
“I regained so much confidence through Generation. I value myself now, and I can provide for my family. My girlfriend and I are enjoying things we couldn’t before. We can finally see our future in a positive light, thanks to Generation,” said Felipe brimming with confidence.
Where is Felipe now?
Today Felipe works at Equifax, aiming to become a Senior Site Reliability Engineer. He hopes to inspire and encourage others who lack self-confidence and feel uncertain about their careers with his story.
“I want to improve my career, my relationships, my mental health and my life overall. Because of Generation, I can focus on more than just money. What I have now is close to freedom. We bought our first car, traveled abroad for the first time, and we’re able to save money.”
Today, Felipe recommends Generation graduates and helps to organize field visits at his employer, once again proving the program’s value and helping others achieve economic mobility.
“I’ll keep giving back to Generation. Whenever I speak with anyone from Generation Chile or Generation Global, I feel part of a community, and I want to keep leveraging this wonderful network. Outside of work, I share every opportunity I find with people in need,” said Felipe.
