Building a Greener Future: Ola’s Journey

Ola’s passion for sustainability began in Nigeria, where he built agricultural value chains from cashew shells to mango peels—turning waste into opportunity. When he moved to the UK in 2021, he saw another chance to drive environmental change: this time through green construction. That’s when he found Generation UK’s Sustainability Project Officer program.

“Generation laid the foundation for me to go on a career path,” Ola says. He found the hands-on, supportive learning experience uniquely practical and empowering. Within 40 days of completing the program, he landed a job in retrofit policy. Generation also helped ease the transition while he was in the program by offering thoughtful supports like internet access and childcare assistance, making it possible to fully commit.

Today, Ola wears many hats: retrofit project officer, business owner, father of three. Thanks to the flexibility of his new career, he spends more time with his family while contributing to the UK’s mission to decarbonize 27 million homes. “The future is bright,” he says. “There’s loads of opportunity. Generation helped me focus, gave me confidence, and opened the door to a sustainable career.”
