Yeisson is 40 years old and has lived in Bogotá, Colombia, his whole life. His three children are his biggest source of pride and inspiration. Before Generation, Yeisson worked as a school bus driver, taking on extra shifts running errands and handling purchasing for the company just to make ends meet. He held that job for nine years, sleeping around three hours a night, until the exhaustion caught up with him; physically, emotionally, and financially. That was the moment he realized his life needed a real shift.

A Change Worth Chasing

It was watching his eldest son studying software development that got him thinking about a different path. He started searching for new opportunities online and came across Generation Colombia’s IT Support Specialist program, sponsored by Colsubsidio and Dell. A first application went unfinished in mid-2025, but when Generation´s team reached back out in September, he didn’t let the chance slip a second time.

Yeisson began the program in October 2025. Alongside networking, artificial intelligence and technical prompting what stayed with him most were the soft skills: learning to take feedback and to hold on to a growth mindset even on the hardest days. “The goals and the limits, we set those ourselves, we’re all capable of the same things,” he says. He graduated in December ready to put everything he’d learned into practice.

Fresh Start

Less than two months after graduating, Yeisson started his new job as a technical support agent at Grupo ASD, handling the company’s software for clients nationwide. Going from 16-hour days to 8-hour shifts changed everything: for the first time in years, he sleeps through the night, has mornings to actually prepare for his day, and gets home in time to enjoy dinner with his kids. With a stable income, he’s now able to invest in his children’s education and future in a way he couldn’t before.

Looking Forward

Outside of work, he’s finally reconnecting with the things he enjoys the most; he’s back to swimming, playing football, and going to the movies. “I’m proud of the person I am today, for giving myself the chance to grow into new things.” he reflects.

Looking ahead, he wants to learn English and go deeper into software development and web design. His message to anyone standing where he once stood: “Everything is possible. Insist, keep going, and give yourself the chance to try.”
